Elgin First Baptist Church

Who We Are

At EFBC we are committed to biblical teaching, serving Jesus and his church, and making the beautiful person and work of Christ known in our community and beyond.

Mission Statement

Be disciples to make disciples.

Vision Statement

Guided by the Holy Spirit, we envision First Baptist Church as:

  • A community where authenticity, biblical knowledge, prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and active participation thrive.

  • A congregation that is committed to being disciples who make disciples, rooted in the inspired and inerrant Word of God.

  • A church that aims to cultivate a culture of genuine faith, deep biblical understanding, and fervent prayer.

  • A fellowship of dedicated disciples whose goal is to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • A caring family of God whose members bear one another's burdens, and who are growing intentionally to be like Christ.

  • Followers of Jesus on a mission transform lives, engaging our local community, and extending God's love and grace to others, with every member actively participating in this mission.

  • A congregation that spiritually reproduces through developing leaders, engaging in church planting, and sending out and supporting missionaries.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe in the one living and true God: eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 1:2)

  • We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, eternal and inerrant. (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • We believe that all are sinners, and that sin is a violation of God's will which separates us from God. We can receive salvation through repentance of sin and a personal decision of faith in Christ's death, burial and resurrection. (Romans 5:1)

  • We believe in the literal existence of heaven and hell. Those who repent of their sins and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will spend eternity in heaven; those who do not will spend eternity in Hell. (Revelation 20:15)

  • We believe Christians are to care deeply for others, bearing one-another's burdens. (Galatians 6:2)

  • We are committed to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 18:19-20)

  • We are committed to be a people devoted to prayer. (Acts 1:8)

  • We practice baptism by immersion as a declaration of the believer's confession of faith in Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:4)

  • We believe that Christians are to grow intentionally to be like Christ through a life-long process. (2 Peter 3:18)
